| Brand/Model/Size of BAD computer monitor(s) that cause(d) you symptoms? | |
| Symptoms caused you by any/all computer monitors? | Not positive it's the monitors or not. |
| Which applies to you? | CRT(s) caused me symptoms |
| Which describes you? | Not sure if I'm chemical or photo s |
| Comments | Here's the history in hindsight as I was unaware of any of this until now. In 1995 we acquired our first computers with CRT's. The brightness tired my eyes so I wore sunglasses while on my PC. I was fine after that and later bought a glare screen. At some point my eldest son was using the CRT he began getting migraines with a neuroligical deficit which effected his communication. He could think properly, but instead of asking me to turn the light off he'd asked me to put his bike away. The pediatric neurologist couldn't figure out a cause. As an adult he still gets them occassionally accompanied with great pain. I can't prove wether or not it was the monitor.
I have never had any balance or vertigo issues in my life until four years ago (Feb. 05) a couple months (Dec.20,04) after I bought my 17" Samsung Syncmaster 712N flatscreen Monitor. I still use an old-fashioned television, no flat screen. I've been away from my monitor for a couple weeks at a time and it didn't help my constant vertigo symptoms go away. My symptoms are the kind described here for Mal de Debarqment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mal_de_debarquement I can't tell if the monitor 'caused' my symptoms or not. According to this article a road trip can bring this condition on. I had taken a road trip in September of 2004...could it be a combination of the trip making me sensitive and the monitor driving the problem home, so to speak? Well, it took 6 months for it to go away. I was still using my Samsung monitor for 3.5 years straight with nary a symptom. Then after another road trip in Nov. 07 I came home and when I got on my computer I noticed that when I was reading online I would get those same symptoms until I turned my computer off and they'd go away. I went to get my eyes checked after three weeks of this. By Dec. 26 the symptoms stayed with me. It is now 21 months later, I still have these symptoms 24/7 and being on my pc makes no difference anymore. My eyes checked out perfect and disease free. The only medical condition I have are these symptoms. Docs are clueless and there's no treatment. I would like to read the PDF book but since I haven't been able to work paying for a copy is not feasable at this time. If you can share your copy with me that would be marvelous. Another common factor I can think of is that in November 07 I had also acquired a brand new comforter set as a gift. I has some sort of flame retardent chemical in it that leaves some sort of black dust on my cover sheet directly under it. I had put it on my bed when I got home. I took it off my bed and put my old bed spread back on. Several months ago I acquired another brand new comforter set and it too has that same dark gray or black powder coming out of it. So, I've removed that set and again put my old bed spread on. There's something going on. I also live in southwest florida...the lightening capital of the world...very electrically charged and while I've had these symptoms the flourescent lights that didn't used to bother me, have been. When the storm fronts come in I feel it exacerbate my symptoms cognitively. I found this page while researching the comforter chemicals lead. I can't say which of these three things or possibly a combo of them is causing my symptoms, but it would be nice to find out. I used to be able to ride backwards on carnival rides with no problems with balance...now I have trouble even while sitting. |

| Which describes you? | Both Chemical AND Photo Sensitive to one degree or another |
| Comments | Sensitivity to computers started 3 and a half years ago, seeimgly overnight as I started working a data entry job in an enviornment that I loved. Problems with LCD's intensified since then and is now a major challenge. Am sensitive to CRT's as well but not as much. Eczema on my face has gotten worse on my face only. Get dizzy while using cell phones for more than a few minutes, especially while walking. Computer usage at night is very uncomfortable and when I do force it, I regret it later. So grateful to know I'm not alone since the feelings are so awkward and hard to describe. I often wonder if it's just me. |
| Webmaster's Response | Kevin, not sure if you\'re reading this response, but since you mention Tourette\'s, you may wanna Google for these keywords - dririna.com tourette\'s - regarding the SCENAR curing Dr. Irina\'s son of Tourette\'s syndrome. I believe the most updated Scenar version to date, is the Cosmodic-Modific. |

| Comments | Upgraded to two 30 inch HP LCD monitors about a year and half ago. A couple of months later began losing hair rapidly. Was diagnosed six months later with Telogen Effluvium. Now, one year after that, still losing hair. I've ruled out all other possible explanations (that I can think of). Still searching for cause...going back to doctor soon. My gut tells me it's the monitors, but I can't find any evidence to back that up. Thanks for the informative site. |
| Webmaster's Response | John, your suspicion re: the link between your hair loss and computer monitor radiation is very plausible. I myself have felt my hair becoming somewhat thinner throughout my years of exposure to phosphor radiation, and mind you, I\'m female! It\'s absolutely horrifying... like a minefield, you never know what new nightmare will crop up. |

| Comments | Dry Eyes Severe especially on the top and around to the back of the eye possibly from excess evaporation from the upper lid being opened more to view the screen which is not at a 15 degree angel downward; getting eyes to cooperate with each other can be a problem as well which causes me to fall asleep unnaturally when I am not tired or in need of any sleep either... sitting up and pulling my head into a more straight direction to the screen helps but that position does not feel good to my overall body so I retract from it frequently in order to make my back adjust better to the sitting position; I get seizures too if I do not keep another light on in the room. (avoiding both darkness and glare is necessary and worth the attention put onto making sure the light is in a good location.) |

I'm unable to read the message board as active as it is =) My computer of 4 years recently broke so I seetled for a internet surfing 2.4ghz Dell computer which is causing me problems. Tried susglasses and reducing the window size. |
| Webmaster's Response | OK, thanks for the testimonial - and it\'s quite OK to register a new account. Ever since I privatized that board, I myself had to re-enter a new post in order to gain access, whereupon Runboard \"welcomed\" me as a \"new\" member. That\'s Runboard\'s quirk, which I haven\'t bothered investigating. Maybe there\'s some tweak via Runboard which I simply haven\'t bothered with. |

| Comments | As I stated above I cannot use cellphones. I get a headache and my face gets red hot.
But recently I got a Pentax Optic S12 digital camera and my eyes started itching. While reading the manual I came across two alarming things. On page 2, "Some portions of the camera heat up during use, so please take care, as there is a risk of low termperature burns if such portions are held for long periods of time. Then on page 5, "Depending on a user's physical condition, some users may experience itching, break out in a rash or suffer from eczema. If an abnormality occurs, immediately discontinue using the camera and seek medical attention." I am going to try an return the camera. They should be letting people know about the potential harmful effects of this camera. |
| Webmaster's Response | Gloria, thanks so much for providing the public with such a thorough testimonial. As I\'ve stated in my site, I myself found that digicams, no matter if they\'re the so-glorified LED\'s, cause me eye irritation. BTW, mine is a Fujifilm A330 digicam, but I figure, for short-time use, what the heck. It\'s not all that bad since it\'s a tiny screen. Whereas computer screens are a LENGTHY-USE ballgame and much larger. And in fact, one member on the Polls & Posts board offered a link to a discussion wherein at least two guys found that their new LED laptops had been killing them. One of them returned his.
